Hypothyroidism
A natural way to manage Hypothyroidism
The symptoms of hypothyroidism are notorious for their nonspecific nature and for the way in which they mimic many symptoms of other diseases. So it often remains misdiagnosed. Vertigo, weight gain, mood disturbances, easy fatigability, tiredness, lethargy, slowness of memory, intellect and thought, menstrual irregularities, cold intolerance, dry rough skin, thin brittle hair, hair fall, muscle stiffness, aching, myalgias, cramps, weakness and fatigue, myxedema, constipation, hoarseness of voice, goiter etc. are the most common symptoms of hypothyroidism, but they can also appear in patients with other diseases.
According to research, a natural therapeutic still understands hypothyroidism the same as western medical doctors, but the medication provided is totally different. In Nature, hypothyroidism was mentioned during the ancient Indies, and described as
1. Thyroid failure
2. Hypothyroidism due to pituitary TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) deficit
3. Hypothyroidism due to deficiency of TRH (Thyrotropin Released Hormone).
Causes
-
The main cause of hypothyroidism is iodine deficiency
-
Another cause is autoimmune thyroid disease, characterized by gradual lymphatic infiltration and progressive destruction of the functional thyroid tissue.
-
Heredity also plays a role in both hyper and hypothyroidism; recent studies show that 20% of the diabetic daughters are more likely to suffer from Hypothyroidism.
-
In the family where there’s history of autoimmune disorders, e.g, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, hepatitis, hashimoto’s thyroiditis, vitiligo, osteoporosis, etc. their children may suffer from hypothyroidism.
-
Some drugs given for non-thyroid conditions may inhibit the production of thyroid hormone within the thyroid gland, most especially if taken for a long time.
-
Nitroprusside, lithium or iodine in a form of cough syrup, steroid, and beta-block proponolol, phenylbutazone etc. may induce hypothyroidism.
-
Failure of the pituitary or hypothalamus gland to stimulate the thyroid gland in a proper way can cause the secondary hypothyroidism.
So now, according to a natural therapeutic, the selection of the medicine for hypothyroidism is done at various levels.
1. At hypothalamo pituitary level: anti stress herbs are recommended
2. At thyroid gland level: thyroid stimulatory herbs are recommended
3. At metabolism level: The plants which pep-up body's metabolism are recommended.
4. For an autoimmune related hypothyroidism; Immuno-modulatory herbs are recommended
During studies, a plant called Commiphora mukul (guggul) was found to support healthy thyroid function, mostly by increasing the conversion of less active Thyroxin (T4) to more active Triiodotyronine (T3) through increasing of thyroid proteolytic activity and the uptake of iodine into thyroxin, and without increasing the production of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone.
Selenium is required for a number of enzymes known as selenoproteins. The chemical reaction, which converts thyroid hormone T4 into T3, is catalyzed by specific selenoproteins. Selenium deficiency can impair thyroid function. The plant called Piper longum (pippali) increases the absorption of selenium.

During the trials of the formula mentioned above, clinical assessment was done and patients were observed after 90 days of the treatment. The results are assessed in terms of complete relief, marked, moderate, mild, and no relief.

4. Mild relief; TSH levels normalized and symptomatic relief up to 25-50%
5. No relief; 0%
In a trial of 32 patients, 16 of them were freshly diagnosed with hypothyroidism, and the other 16 patients were already taking modern medicine for hypothyroidism. However, the first 16 patients who were freshly diagnosed, their results were good and the TSH levels came to normal range within 90 days. But those who were taking modern medicine didn’t perform well until they withdrew 25mcg of modern medicine known as “thyronom’ in the first month, and when they got a relief, they were advised to withdraw the next 25mcg of thyronom until after the treatment.

At that stage, the stools are hard, when you try to push them out they don’t accept, but the urge is still felt, leaving cracks on the anus and sometimes piles. According to a natural therapeutic, constipation is a disease caused by vitiated Vata (air element) and if the problem turns to be chronic, it may then be due to excessive Pita (fire & water element)-leading to aridness of the stools, or high Kapha (water & earth element)-making the mucous congestion clog in the colon.
Constipation can cause a large number of diseases including sluggish liver, skin diseases, inflammation of the internal organs, diabetes, impotence, etc. malfunctioning of the colon accumulates poisonous wastes in the body-contaminating the body through absorption with the blood, leaving the digestive system very upset and unable to do its job.

If it does not appear in the stools within 16 to 24 hours, then you are constipated. Carefully continue to watch whether the color of the stools is conspicuous of charcoal for several hours, this is then indicating colonic congestion.
-
When you seat on the toilet, check whether the stools stick on the walls of the toilet, if they do, then you are constipated.
Causes of Constipation
The major causes of constipation include consumption of coffee and tea. Both of these things can cause constipation. A single dose of tea or coffee in an amount 10grams stops diarrhea and may stop your bowel from evacuating for over three days.
